Uses

AM BCuP-5 is a versatile and effective silver-copper-phosphorus brazing alloy that is primarily used in copper to copper braze joints in HVAC Markets. AM BCuP-5 can be used with other copper-based alloys such as brass or bronze.

Brazing Characteristics

AM BCup-5 does NOT require a flux when brazing copper because the phosphorus within the braze alloy. Along with a reducing torch flame, AM BCUp-5 creates an extremely strong hermetically sealed braze joint that is stronger than the copper itself. AM BCuP-5 has a long melting range (200°F) and can have a “Liquation Effect” where low and high melting constituents of the braze filler metal separate due to improper heating. To avoid this phenomenon, it is recommended to rapidly heat assembly to and above the brazing temperature. A minimum brazing temperature of 1525°F (800°C) is recommended. Am BCuP-5 will require a low temperature brazing Flux in almost all applications other than copper to copper brazing.
