Uses
AM Au-Sn Gold Brazing Alloy is used primarily on furnace or vacuum braze applications requiring low melting temperatures. Primarily used in the Aerospace, Medical, and High power LED lighting. AM Au-Sn provides a high-strength braze joint and has excellent corrosion resistance.
Brazing Characteristics
AM Au-Sn Gold Brazing Alloy can be successfully brazed onto a wide range of low temperature applications requiring low vapor pressure. AM-Au-Sn is less ductile than most other gold filler metals. A minimum brazing temperature of 556 °F (280°C) is recommend for brazing applications and AM-Au-Sn is not recommended without a protective cover or shielding gas.
Properties of Brazed Joints
The properties of a brazed joint are dependent upon numerous factors including base metal properties, joint design and brazing technique. For controlled atmosphere brazing or vacuum brazing the recommended radial joint clearance for gold base alloys fall within 0.000 in – 0.002in (0.00mm-0.05mm) range.
Specifications
AM Au-Sn is manufactured to American Welding Society specifications: AWS A5.8 2019
Forms Available
Foil, Atomized powder, Paste, Sheet, and Preformed shapes; washers, discs, shims, specialty shapes. Two dimensional shapes can be Laser-cut and machined with EDM though parts must be cleaned prior to brazing.
